Metal, Illuminated

My vintage floor lamp has been surprisingly dependable--going on 4 years strong.  And considering I found it in someone's front yard with a "FREE" sign attached to its base, I wasn't expecting much.  But after a little cleaning and an eco-friendly, CFL bulb update, it's been a dream.

While perusing ETSY this morning (under the soft glow from said floor lamp) I discovered several metallic, light-themed items that took me back to that wonderful day 4 years ago, when I happened upon my lovely lamp.  Have a look:

"KOZO1", designer table lamp made from galvanized iron parts, from Demo Design Clinic.

Metal lampshade turned magazine rack, from Artsyrubbish.

Hand-forged, steel candleholder, from Bacon Square Farm.

Vintage brass scissor extension lamp, from Deluxa Home.

Smiling (and knitting) can be good for your health

Recently, scientists have linked smiling to several different health benefits (boosting of the immune system, lowering blood pressure, releasing endorphins and producing serotonin, among others).  But it doesn't take a scientist to realize that one of the best benefits to smiling is that it can become utterly contagious.

I promise, Janelle Haskin's ETSY shop will make you smile.  If her photos somehow don't get your facial muscles turning right side up, then seeing her super-cute, hand-knitted scarves and accessories will surely do the trick.  Have a looksy...and be sure to pass that contagious smile along.

Fluffy neckwarmer in avacado.

Large bow in plum.

Earwarmer in black and cloud.

Fluffy neckwarmer in slate.

All of Janelle Haskin's items are handmade and "knit to order".  Even that phrase brings a smile to my face...

Blackbirds, Constellations, and Ninjas!

One of my favorite ETSY t-shirt shops, Blackbird Tees, just came out with 2 new designs.  If you haven't heard of Blackbird Tees, you're missing out.  With many, many hand screen-printed designs (for men and women)--all printed on super-comfy, made in the U.S.A., American Apparel t-shirts--you'll surely find a new favorite (or three!).  Take a jump and check it out:  Blackbird Tees.

"What's Your Sign" is the first in a special, limited edition zodiac series, based on the astrological constellations.  This month's design features the water barer, Aquarius.  If I were to wish upon a star, this shirt would definitely be a part of my wardrobe!

"To Catch a Thief", inspired by early promotional posters for Louis Feuillade's Les Vampires, features an intriguing ninja-like character--leaving us to wonder: should we buy this shirt for a friend...or keep it for ourselves!?

The meaning of green...

Not sure why, but for some reason I woke up thinking about green.  Maybe it was seeing all the trees and grass during the walk I took yesterday.  Or maybe it's the kelly green cruiser that rests in my living room.  Perhaps it was simply the Symbicort commercial (the one with that beautiful green and white classic truck) I saw last night, just before venturing off to lala land.  Whatever the reason, here's some green from the scene:

80's style, reborn:

"It Girl" raglan, from BlackbirdTees.

Feathery fashion for your ears:

Vintage lucite owl earrings, from Percraftination.

Road meets room:

Recycled bike clock, from 1byliz.

A sweet treat, with pleats:

Vintage 60's key lime pie dress, from Thrush.

Slow Breakfast

For years, our parents told us that breakfast was the most important meal of the day.  Why then, do so many people eat this decidedly important meal in haste?  A quick bagel here, a piece of toast and some butter there, or even a power bar...that's just wrong my friends.  I say it's time to slow down and enjoy the best meal of the day.  Wake up.  Pour slow.  Eat slower.  Enjoy more.

Here are some items to remind you of how great breakfast can be when enjoyed properly:

Enjoy more juice; with friends too:

Vintage Juice Carafe and Glasses, from RollingHillsVintage.

Get civilized with your creamer rituals:

Vintage Creamer, from Northernlodge.

Still in a rush?  Take some hot tea to go:

Vintage Yellow Thermos Pitcher, from jwhite2 (Adventures In Vintage).
